Sure, the beloved movie Christmas Story is fiction, but if you’ve ever broken your specs or cursed them for some other reason, you can sympathize with Ralphie. In fact, an eclectic array of odd things can happen to eyeglasses that could fill the Silver Screen with many laugh out loud moments!

These days, the availability of many chic designer frames has added a cool factor to wearing eyeglasses, even for individuals that don’t need prescriptions. And believe it or not, there are some folks who bemoan the demise of Family Matters so much, they opt for a dorky “Urkelesque” look. Fashion aside, the following issues need to be considered when you’re contemplating the contacts vs. glasses debate.

1. When you wear glasses, it’s hard to apply makeup, and when you don’t wear them, you can’t see what you’re doing!

Wash your hands thoroughly before putting in your contacts, then apply eye makeup. That way you’ll be able to see exactly where you apply it. You need to follow a few precautions so makeup residue doesn’t get on your lenses. Use non-allergenic makeup, close your eyes if you use powdered eye shadow, and never apply eyeliner between your lashes and eye. Wash and dry your hands before taking out your contacts and do so carefully to avoid getting eye makeup on them. Then apply eye makeup remover.

2. Glasses can easily slip off or steam up during physical activities.

You don’t need to worry about contacts fogging up when you’re working out. Even if you sweat quite a bit, your contacts won’t slide out of your eyes as eyeglasses fall off your face. In addition, contacts don’t interfere with sports gear such as helmets, headbands, caps, or googles.

3. When it rains, glasses can get wet and blur your vision.

You don’t need to worry about this with contacts, as long as you’re not holding your head up to the sky, purposely standing under a big rain cloud with your eyes wide open.

4. Glasses get dirty easily and require cleaning multiple times throughout the day.

You can wear contacts all day long without worrying about dirt, but you do need to be diligent about storing them in fresh solution at night unless you wear dailies.

5. Glasses can easily fall off your face, get scratched, and even break!

It’s rare for contacts to fall out of your eyes. Just be careful when taking them out so they don’t get lost in your shag carpet!

6. Glasses can make it seem like you have tunnel vision.

Contacts sit comfortably on the curvature of the eye, providing a wider field of vision than eyeglass lenses. They also provide clearer vision because you don’t have to worry about reflections, glare, distortions, or scratches compromising the refractive correction.

7. Glasses don’t allow you to change your eye color.

With Freshlook Colorblends, you can enhance your look and create naturally beautiful eyes.
